About our work in Herndon
Why Herndon homeowners choose Virginia Exteriors
Herndon covers a wide range â older town-center homes near the W&OD trail, the Franklin Farm and Worldgate subdivisions, and newer construction up toward the toll road. Most of the work we’re called for here is on homes built between the late 1970s and late 1990s, where the original windows, vinyl siding, and gutters are all aging out at roughly the same time.
Herndon HOAs tend to be more pragmatic than some of the larger Reston or Chantilly associations â color and material approvals are usually straightforward as long as you stay within the established palette. We handle those submittals as part of the job and make sure what we install will pass review the first time.
Common exterior challenges in Herndon
What we see on Herndon homes
Every neighborhood has its own pattern of what fails first and why. Here’s what we see most often on Herndon homes.
Aging window-siding-gutter cycle
Late-1970s through 1990s subdivisions all hitting the same replacement window, siding, and gutter timeline at once — the original materials are simply at end of life.
Undersized 5-inch gutters
Gutters sized for the original rooflines overflow in heavy storms, staining fascia and driving water behind siding over years of freeze-thaw cycles.
Trim rot at eaves and windows
Homes without exterior maintenance in 15-plus years often have soft, paint-peeling trim at the eaves and around window frames — a straightforward replacement but one that compounds if ignored.
Failing builder-grade vinyl siding
Brittle, chalking panels — particularly on west-facing elevations — that crack or warp when struck. Original vinyl from the 1980s and 1990s simply doesn’t hold up indefinitely in Northern Virginia summers.

Why local matters
We’re based in Sterling. Herndon is part of our daily route.
Herndon is a short drive from our Sterling shop, and it’s part of our daily Northern Virginia service area. That means the same project manager who walked your property is the one answering the phone, the same crew that started your job is the one finishing it, and warranty service doesn’t get handed off to a subcontractor a year later. Our installers are W-2 employees with long crew tenure, and we’re not trying to be a multi-state operation — we’re trying to be the exteriors contractor your neighbors recommend.
✓ ~20 min from Sterling
✓ W-2 employee crews
✓ 10-yr workmanship warranty
✓ Warranty service in-house
What homeowners say
Real jobs. Real neighbors.

“Virginia Exteriors replaced all 14 windows in our Worldgate Colonial last fall. The crew finished in a single day, the windows sealed up going into winter, and the HOA approved the materials without a single callback. Couldn’t ask for a smoother job.”

“We had trim rot and gutter overflow on the back of the house for two years before we called Virginia Exteriors. They replaced the gutters, fascia, and all the trim along that elevation in three days. Same crew start to finish. Worth every dollar.”

Common questions
Questions about exterior work in Herndon
Is Virginia Exteriors licensed to work in Virginia?
Yes. We hold a Virginia Class A Contractor license and carry full liability and workers’ compensation insurance on every job. The license number is on every estimate we send â you can verify it on the DPOR website in about 30 seconds.
Do you use your own employees or subcontractors?
Our own W-2 employees â no subcontractors on any job. The same crew that shows up on day one is the crew that finishes the job and comes back for warranty work. That’s not a marketing line; it’s how we’re structured. We don’t have a roster of 1099 crews to hand off to.
How long does a typical project take?
Most window replacements finish in a single day. Full-house siding is typically two to four days depending on the scope. Roofing runs one to two days for a standard colonial. We give you a schedule before we start and tell you exactly which days the crew will be on-site.
Do you handle HOA approval paperwork?
Yes. We submit material and color specs to your HOA on your behalf and handle follow-up from the review board. We know what most Northern Virginia associations want to see â product cut sheets, color samples, installation specs â and we price the submittal into every job. We make sure what we install will pass review before we ever order materials.
What warranty comes with the work?
Every product carries the manufacturer’s warranty â lifetime limited on most windows and siding, 25 to 50 years on roofing. We add a 10-year workmanship warranty on top of that. If something fails because of how it was installed, we fix it. Warranty service is handled by the same crew that did the work, not handed off to a call center.
Do you serve all of Herndon — Franklin Farm, Worldgate, Dranesville?
Yes. We work across all of Herndon — the town center, Franklin Farm, Worldgate, Dranesville, and the newer construction along the toll road corridor. Herndon is part of our daily service area, not an occasional callout market.
How close is your Sterling shop to Herndon?
About 15 to 20 minutes down Route 7 depending on traffic. We’re on-site in Herndon regularly and don’t treat it as a distant market — it’s one of our core Northern Virginia service towns.
My Herndon HOA has strict color and material rules. Can you work with that?
Definitely. Herndon HOAs tend to be relatively practical compared to some of the larger Reston associations — color and material approvals usually go smoothly as long as you stay within the established palette. We handle the submittal, know what’s typically approved, and spec everything accordingly before we order a single piece of material.
