Why we wrap exterior trim

Wood trim on the exterior of your home (rake boards, fascia, frieze boards, and porch trim) takes the brunt of every season’s weather. Even premium paint cycles fail after 5 to 8 years. Sun fades it. Moisture lifts it. Eventually the wood underneath starts to rot.

The fix is not another paint job. It is covering the wood permanently in PVC-coated aluminum trim coil so it stops getting weathered in the first place. The aluminum is bent on site to fit each board, color-matched to your home, and installed with stainless fasteners that will not rust.

You never paint the wrapped trim again. Ever.

Never again

Stop painting exterior trim

Wrap it once in PVC-coated aluminum and the board is sealed permanently. No more 5-year paint cycles.

Bent on site

Custom fit every board

We bring a metal brake on site and bend the aluminum coil to fit each board exactly — no gaps, no filler.

Color-matched

Invisible against siding

We carry trim coil in every major siding color. Wrapped trim blends into the home instead of standing out.

In Northern Virginia

Wrapping exterior trim on Northern Virginia homes since 2013. We know the common failure points on colonial and split-level homes.

What we wrap

Any exposed wood on the exterior of your home can be wrapped. Here are the components we cover most often.

Fascia Boards

The horizontal boards running along the roofline where gutters attach. The most common trim failure point — gutters hold moisture against them constantly. We wrap or replace-and-wrap fascia before new gutters go up.

Soffit

The underside of the roof overhang. We install vinyl soffit over the existing substrate, switching to vented panels where the attic needs airflow and solid panels everywhere else.

Rake Boards

The angled trim running up the gable ends of the roof. Same wrapping process as fascia, with the angle cuts made on site with the metal brake.

Frieze Boards

The horizontal decorative bands where the siding meets the soffit line. Common on Northern Virginia colonials, these boards take the most weather exposure of any trim piece other than fascia.

Window Surrounds

The casings and sill extensions around window openings. Wrapping window surrounds pairs well with new window installs to give the exterior a finished, consistent look.

Column Wraps

Covering wood porch or entry columns in aluminum. Prevents the rot that commonly starts at the base of wood columns where they meet the porch deck.

Corner Posts

The exterior corner trim where two siding planes meet. Color-matched corner posts are part of every siding install we do and can be added independently.

Door Casings

The trim framing exterior door openings. Pairs naturally with door replacement work to ensure the new door has clean, maintenance-free framing.

Stop the paint cycle

Ready to wrap your trim and be done with it?

We walk the exterior, identify every piece of wood that can be wrapped, and give you a written price. Most trim estimates take under 30 minutes.

Why PVC-coated aluminum, not just aluminum

Raw aluminum dents easily and shows scratches. PVC-coated aluminum has a baked-on plastic coating that resists denting, will not scratch through to the metal, and holds its color for decades without paint. The color match to vinyl siding is precise, and the warranty matches the lifetime warranty on most vinyl siding lines.

Trim work pairs with siding, gutters, and roofing

The smartest time to do trim wrapping is during another exterior project. If you are replacing siding, the crew already has scaffolding up. If you are replacing gutters, fascia replacement should happen first. If you are replacing a roof, the rake boards and soffit get touched anyway. Bundling trim work saves time and labor.

What happens after you call

Trim wrapping is one of the most straightforward exterior projects we do. Here is the typical flow.

01

Free estimate

We walk the entire exterior, assess each piece of wood trim, measure linear footage, and identify anything that needs repair before wrapping. Written price with no obligation.

02

Material sourced

We order your color coil and schedule the install. Lead time is typically 1 week. No custom manufacturing required — we stock or source all standard colors.

03

Install day

Our crew brings the metal brake on site and bends the coil to fit each board. Fascia first, then soffit, then rake, then accent trim. Full cleanup — aluminum scraps go in our containers.

Common questions about exterior trim wrapping

What is PVC-coated aluminum trim wrap?

It is aluminum coil stock with a factory-applied PVC coating on the exterior face. The aluminum is bent on site to fit your specific boards. The PVC coating gives it a smooth, paintable-looking finish that resists denting and holds its color without paint. It goes over your existing wood trim, permanently covering and sealing it.

What if the wood underneath is already rotting?

We assess the condition of every board before wrapping. If the wood is structurally sound but just weathered, we wrap over it. If it is soft, punky, or compromised, we replace the wood first and then wrap the replacement. Skipping this step would mean wrapping over rot, which traps moisture and accelerates the damage.

Will the aluminum trim color match my siding?

Yes. We carry coil stock in every major siding color family. For vinyl siding installs, we order the trim coil from the same color lot as the siding. For existing siding, we match from the manufacturer’s color palette. Color chips are available at the estimate.

Does wrapped trim ever need any maintenance?

No. PVC-coated aluminum does not rust, does not rot, and holds its color without paint for the life of the home. The only maintenance item is caulk at penetrations (where boards meet other surfaces), which should be checked every 5 to 10 years as part of normal home upkeep — the same as any exterior caulk joint.

Can I just do trim wrapping, or does it need to be part of a bigger project?

Trim wrapping is a standalone service. You do not need to be replacing siding or doing any other work. That said, the most economical time to do it is during another exterior project — if scaffolding is already up for siding or the gutters are already off for a roof replacement, the labor efficiency is much better.

What is the difference between trim wrapping and trim replacement?

Trim replacement involves removing the existing wood board and installing a new one — either wood again, or a cellular PVC board that does not require wrapping. Trim wrapping covers the existing board in aluminum without removing it. Wrapping is faster and less expensive when the existing wood is still structurally sound. We tell you at the estimate which approach makes more sense for each board.

From our customers

Your suggestion of covering all our painted surfaces with aluminum trim was a good one. It means that we will not be climbing high ladders to paint the exterior wood on the house ever again.
